PaperWeight – iPhone app from Root Creative
Root Creative are delighted to announce the launch of our first iphone app – PaperWeight.
We have been busy creating this nifty little app over the last month, and are currently working on more app ideas. PaperWeight very quickly and easily calculates the weight of any printed stock and takes into account other elements such as covers, inserts, ink, stitching and glueing procedures. We’re hoping that like-minded professionals in the design and print sectors find it useful. It saves on the old grey matter after all!
You can view our FREE app here on the Apple website. Or search for it in your iphone – it’s in the App Store under ‘Productivity’, or you can do a search for ‘PaperWeight’.
We hope that there will be many more apps to come from Root Creative – one of the first iphone app developers in Glasgow.

Great app, it should be usefull if the results were better. Try it with a 1000x1000mm sheet = 1 m2. with a paper weight of 100 gsm, for 2 pages, 1 copy, the result should be 100 g but it’s 101 g.
Hope this problem will be fixed. Let me know.
Thanks.
Hi Rudy, thanks for your comments. That’s great actually, it shows that it works exactly as we wanted it to. PaperWeight accounts for finishing techniques including stitching glueing and ink. We have allowed a 1% margin for this. Your calculation is based on 1 sheet, with no finishing techniques. Let’s take for example, 20k A4 2pp leaflets which would have no finishing techniques applied to them. BUT, they may have a large coverage of ink, which would increase the total weight. Maybe not by a whole 1%, but at least the ink is included in the 1% addition to the total weight.
Still, you DO have a point, albeit it’s one which is negligible in terms of what we intended the app to be able to achieve for people. Thanks for bringing it to our attention. Perhaps we could take the 1% calculation off for jobs with a total of 2 pages with a quantity of 1!
